- MasterChef_Junior_(U.S._season_2) shortsummary "* Season Finale: Logan Guleff, 11, and Samuel Stromberg, 12, went head to head in their full-course battles on tonight’s 2014 finale of Masterchef Junior and the winner was Logan Guleff. The two boys used modern methods to cook with smoking guns and liquid nitrogen in their dishes. Their friends, family, and fellow contestants cheered them each on as they created in-depth cuisine. In addition, the judges were thoroughly impressed as they watched the two boys in action. While cooking, the judges seemed uneasy about Samuel waiting too long to cook his fish and Logan using a goat cheese mousse in his dessert, but the dishes each looked amazing. Let’s start with Samuel, who picked an Asian theme for his finale foods. Gordon Ramsay adored Samuel’s first course, though he felt it was slightly overdone. Judge Graham Elliot said he liked the idea of the chicken better than the actual flavor. Samuel’s second course was an Arctic Char, with table-side service for the sauce. The cook on the fish was perfect, which gave Samuel relief. Judge Bastianich had not one bad thing to say about the dish, though Elliot felt the dish was a little heavy. Overall, the judges loved it. For Samuel’s dessert, he made a Kaffir Lime Panna Cotta and Elliot was head over heels for it. Ramsay gushed over the dish as well, along with Bastianich who called the course brilliant. For Logan’s first course, he served a spot prawns dish with smoked aioli that Ramsay gushed over. Judge Elliot loved the dish as well, but said that the olives over-powered the dish a bit. Judge Joe Bastianich was a big fan as well. Logan’s second course was a salt-crusted Branzino. It was an odd-looking dish and the judges couldn’t wait to see how the fish was cooked under such a large crust. Judge Bastianich said that Logan nailed it with the fish and it tasted amazing. The other judges loved the dish as well, though Ramsay felt he could have chosen a better sauce to pair with the dish. Logan’s dessert was a Meyer Lemon Madeleine with a berry compote and goat cheese mousse. Elliot thought the dish was sophisticated and balanced, while Ramsay thought the dish was brilliant. Judge Bastianich echoed their comments. * Judges' Deliberations: Graham, Gordon, and Joe definitely agree that Logan should be crowned MasterChef Junior. * Winner Revealed: Logan is announced as the second MasterChef Junior winner, taking home the trophy and the $100,000 prize, making Samuel the second runner-up.".
- MasterChef_Junior_(U.S._season_2) shortsummary "*Individual Challenge: With the best three dishes in the previous elimination challenge, Oona, Sean and Samuel are given premade pancake batter and are told to make as many pancakes as they could in six minutes. The person who made the most pancakes would get a huge advantage in the next challenge, as well as saving their respective judge Oona was given Gordon, Sean was given Joe and Samuel was given Graham from being drenched in a huge jar of syrup. Oona and Samuel came across challenges, with Oona breaking her pancakes and later dropping some and Samuel burning his. In the end, Samuel and Sean had a similarly large stack of pancakes, while Oona had a stack which made even herself realize, "I'm screwed". As expected, Sean, with no evident challenge throughout the six minutes, won the challenge with nineteen pancakes , as opposed to Oona's eight. Of course, that didn't stop Sean from pouring his syrup on Joe anyway, sending the kids into peals of laughter. *Elimination Challenge: As his advantage, Sean was immune from the following elimination challenge, and in front of the children was shown three types of cream pie - a fruit pie, a citrus pie and a chocolate pie. Realizing the problems contestants would face from balancing tartness and sweetness, Sean picked the citrus pie, much to Natalie's dismay. Before the sixty minutes began, Sean was given another advantage: the ability to pull out a contestant from facing immunity in the challenge. Sean picked Mitchell, saying that he knew that he was good at making cream pie anyway. During the challenge, all contestants came across challenges, especially Levi and Natalie, the former who couldn't get his tartness right in his curd and the latter who picked grapefruit in place of orange in her intent to make an orange cream pie. In the end, Levi bounced back and created a key lime pie with coconut whipped cream that, along with Adaiah's southern style blood orange lemon pie with raspberries, became one of the two best pies of the night. Logan's raspberry lime pie, Oona's blood orange cream pie with passion fruit whipped cream, and Abby's blood orange cream pie with jelly beans were also deemed impressive, despite the former one's concerns that the crust was ugly . Oona's blood orange pie with passionfruit whipped cream impressed Gordon so much that he asked where the idea came from, which she said "from my brain". Abby's pie tasted good although Logan wondered why she put jellybeans on her pie. However, there were some junior cooks who made pies which didn't impress as much. Despite his confidence and being considered a frontrunner, Samuel's grapefruit cream with rosewater and nutmeg pie was overspiced and deemed too spicy with the strong nutmeg overpowered the grapefruit in the pie. Moreover, his cream wasn't whipped enough and the crust was not perfect . Jessica, despite her cockiness and the fact that she had baked a citrus pie that won a Texas state fair, her citrus Texas pecan pie with key lime, lemon and orange tasted a little too sweet and underwhelming. It also had an uneven crust, insufficient filling and a few too many pecans . Natalie's grapefruit cream pie with coconut cream frosting still had raw dough in her crust and tasted one-dimensional with only sweetness noticeable , and the judges commented that she was clearly out of her comfort zone with desserts. Sam's blood orange cream pie had undercooked crust which was also too thick , while Josh's key lime pie also had undercooked crust, though not as badly as Natalie did. The aforementioned became the bottom four of the night. Sam was saved by his perfect balance between curd and cream and Josh did just enough to save himself from elimination, so Jessica and Natalie, despite Natalie being a frontrunner, were sent home.".
- MasterChef_Junior_(U.S._season_2) shortsummary "*Mystery Box Challenge: There is a huge mystery box on the judges' table. It's cupcakes, but before the contestants make them, they each take a cupcake. However, unlike previous mystery box challenges, there are 5 pairs of cupcakes, meaning there is a team challenge. The teams are: Adaiah and Sam, Samuel and Levi, Abby and Mitchell, Oona and Josh, and Sean and Logan. They have to make 12 cupcakes, but however, they have to make them with their legs tied up. 4 of the teams made 6 different cupcakes. The 3 standout cupcakes are Adaiah and Sam, with their blood orange and lemon cupcakes, Abby and Mitchell, with their vinila and cherry cupcake, and Sean and Logan, with their lemon and chocolate cupcake with a sugar pastry cage. In the end, Logan and Sean win the Mystery box. *Elimination Challenge: For winning the Mystery Box challenge, Logan and Sean are safe from elimination, and will choose what everyone has to cook, but first they meet Helen Ramsay, Gordon's mom. They have to choose among Gordon's three favorite dishes from his childhood: fish finger sandwich, chicken curry and Shepherd's Pie. They choose Shepherd's Pie. A number of the contestants did not fare well. Oona's curry shepherd's pie with beef and Italian sausage had an unfinished top , and her filling was deemed greasy and subpar. Despite his earlier confidence, Mitchell's lamb and beef shepherd's pie with celery root mashed potatoes was poorly presented and was deemed to taste strange, as the mince meat was dry and Gordon said it was like "chopped burgers", and this wasn't one of his best performances. Sam's shepherd's pie with ground beef, pea puree and mashed potatoes also received subpar reviews, as his ground meat is very dry. On the other hand, Levi's lamb shepherd's pie with Parmesan mashed potatoes and Adaiah's shepherd's pie napoleon with pear-pea and pepper sauce received rave reviews from the judges. Josh's deconstructed shepherd's pie with peas and carrots, Samuel's Moroccan shepherd's pie with parsnip mashed potatoes, and Abby's shepherd's pie with pumpkin and sweet potato puree were also all well received. Once again, Levi and Adaiah was deemed to have the best dishes of the night. The worst three dishes belonged to Oona, Sam, and Mitchell. The judges send Oona to safety for at least having okay filling, eliminating a teary Sam and Mitchell, despite Mitchell being a frontrunner.".
- MasterChef_Junior_(U.S._season_2) shortsummary "*Mystery Box Challenge: There is yet again another huge mystery box on the judges' table. Inside, there is a sunny side up egg, and the home cooks must make as much perfect eggs as they can. During cooking, Oona and Abby struggle making the eggs, and Logan and Josh also have trouble. While plating, Abby's eggs get severely burnt, leading to chaos. In the end, Abby ends up with 2 eggs, Adaiah and Oona have 4, Levi and Josh have 5, Logan has 7, Samuel has 8, but Sean has 10, giving him the win. *Elimination Challenge: Sean is not immune from elimination. Instead, the contestants have to cook a signature dish that they can see being in their own future restaurants with only the number of ingredients of how many eggs they cooked, leading Abby to panic as she can only use 2 ingredients. When the chefs start cooking, Graham points out that even though Logan, Sean, and Samuel have the most ingredients, they could over-complicate them and create underwhelming dishes. When time is up, Abby is called down. despite her immense disadvantage, her broiled salmon with asparagus five ways received rave reviews with a perfect cook on her salmon and her creativity. Arabia's yogurt crusted lamb chop with sweet potatoes and orange sauce also received great reviews for her orange sauce. Many of the other contestants did not fare well as many of the young home cooks struggled with the cook on their proteins. Despite his huge advantage, Sean's rib eye with paprika crema and potatoes received mixed reviews as his steak was overcooked but his sauce was deemed delicious, moreover his plating seemed lacking despite the fact he was able to use the most ingredients of all the contestants. Levi's pan seared salmon with mustard maple glaze and broccolini two ways also received less favorable reviews due to his very overcooked salmon, while Oona's scallops two ways with ginger oil and cauliflower puree also suffered from the fact that her seared scallops were also overcooked. Despite the judges's confidence in him, Logan's flat iron steak marinated in ginger and soy sauce with bamboo rice also underwhelmed the judges as his rice is overcooked and taste bland , with Gordon saying he expected Logan to be a little more elaborated on his dish given his past performances as his plating was lacking like Sean's, leading him to burst into tears in sadness. Josh's curried duck a l'orange with cilantro rice also suffered from poor cook of his protein as his duck was quite overcooked. On the other hand, Samuel's five spiced seared duck with pesto cucumber and broccolini puree, despite Gordon initially thinking his plating was lacking, received rave reviews for his perfect cook on his duck and for explosive flavours of his puree. In the end, Samuel and Abby are made team captains in the upcoming challenge. Josh, Levi, Oona and Sean were declared as the bottom 4. The judges send Oona and Sean to safety, leading to the tearful elimination of Josh and Levi despite Levi being a front-runner.".
- MasterChef_Junior_(U.S._season_2) shortsummary "*Team Challenge: They were divided into two teams – led by the winners of last week’s challenge, Samuel and Abby, with Samuel getting the first pick. Samuel chooses Sean and Oona, forming the Blue team, while Abby chooses Adaiah and Logan, forming the Red team. Then they were whisked off to Malibu to meet their new restaurant challenge. The Pop – Up Restaurant was located outdoors and the Chefs Gordon, Graham and Joe gave cooking demonstrations of the required menu preparation. The menu consisted of two appetizers: Tempura Zucchini Blossoms with Goat Cheese and Spot Prawn Ceviche and two entrees: Loup De Mer with Fennel Trio and Filet Mignon with Fries and Spring Mushrooms. Forty culinary experts were invited to sample the menu. They were clearly stressed over the task placed before them and, surprisingly, things started to fall apart over on the Blue Team composed of Oona, Sean and Samuel. On the Red Team, Graham gagged on Logan’s dish – it was too salty. Logan knew he had to perfect the seasoning or else he was doomed for elimination. On the Blue Team, Oona was struggling with the Blossoms. When it came time to serve the guests, the Blue Team lagged behind and Team Leader Samuel was frustrated. The Red Team, on the other hand, were booting along. The Blue Team ended up with a flawless finish with their outstanding entrée dishes. They were clearly basking in the glory while the Red Team struggled with their entrées. The judges test-tasted the culinary results from both teams, and the guests wrote down their preferences as well – Red or Blue – and based on these results plus overall performance, one team would advance to the semi-finals and two from the losing team would, unfortunately, would go home. The winning team was RED, sending Adaiah, Logan, and Abby to the semifinals. The Blue team is up for elimination, however, only one will be safe. The judges send Samuel to safety for at least being a good captain, leading to the teary elimination of Oona and Sean, much to the other contestants' sadness.".
