- Joe_Twomey abstract "Joe Twomey was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Glen Rovers and with the Cork senior inter-county team in the 1950s.Born in Blackpool on the north side of Cork, Joe Twomey played hurling with the famous Glen Rovers. In a club career that lasted throughout the 1950s and the 1960s he won several county championship titles. By the early 1950s Twomey had joined the Cork senior hurling team. He won his first Munster title in 1952 following a thrilling defeat of Tipperary in the final. He later collected his first All-Ireland medal following a 13 point win over Dublin. In 1953 Twomey began the year by winning a National Hurling League medal with Cork. He later added a second Munster title to his collection following a second consecutive win over Tipperary in the final. Cork later defeated Galway in one of the dirtiest championship deciders ever played, giving Twomey his second, and final, All-Ireland medal. Twomey was dropped from the team for the next few seasons, however, he returned in the late 1950s to play in a number of losing Munster finals for Cork. He captained the side in 1960.".
