His areas of expertise include the history and archeology of ancient Israel, the composition history of the Bible, as well as warfare and nation formation in the Ancient Near East. He is associate professor of Hebrew Bible at Emory University, Candler School of Theology.Born in Rockport, Massachusetts Wright studied abroad extensively. He received the Doctor Theologiae from the University of Göttingen in 2003 and went on to teach at Heidelberg University. It was featured in the Chronicle for Higher Education. An expanded version of this book was published by Cambridge University Press: David, King of Israel, and Caleb in Biblical Memory. In 2015 it received a PROSE Awards honorable mention from the Association of American Publishers. In 2015 Wright's book was awarded the inaugural Nancy Lapp Popular Book Award of the American Schools of Oriental Research.In the summer of 2014 he taught a MOOC course on The Bible’s Prehistory, Purpose, and Political Future, through Coursera and Emory University to over 27,000 students.
