Named after its founder, the late Lt. Col. Maqbool Hussain Zaidi, the Imambargah was the first to introduce mourning processions in the city and conduct organised Majalis. The Imambargah is located in the old city on the busy Gordon College Road.Yearly majalis are held at the Imambargah during the first ten days of Muharram (first month of Muslim calendar), 18-20 Safar (following month) and 19-21 Ramadan. Processions are brought out on 7, 9 and 10th of Muharram (Ashura) and 20 Safar. The 10th of Muharram procession taken out from the Imambargah is the principal procession of Rawalpindi.The Imambargah was run by its founder until his death in 1969. Thereafter, its administration has been looked after by his widow and his sons --- Mehdi Alamdar Hussain, Muhammad Iftikhar Hussain and Hashim Vaqar Hussain.Imambargah Colonel Maqbool Hussain is the main Imambargah in Rawalpindi city. Among the oldest Imambargah in city of Rawalpindi and centrally located in heart of old town, Imambargah Col Maqbool has the highest participation from people across Rawalpindi and adjourning cities.
