- Hayden_Gliemmo abstract "Robert Hayden Gliemmo (born November 20, 1978) is an American former baseball player notable for co-winning the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman of the Year honor, alongside Aaron Heilman and Xavier Nady.He was born in Moultrie, Georgia and attended Colquitt County High School before attending Auburn University (choosing the school over Florida State and Georgia), where he played from 1998 to 2001. In his freshman year, he went 13-3 with a 4.94 ERA in 21 games (19 starts), completing two games and striking out 104 batters in 118.1 innings. At the plate, he posted a slash line of .319/.404/.440 with three home runs, 22 RBI, 37 runs scored and 45 hits in 40 games. He earned six wins against SEC teams, the last pitcher to do so until Grant Dayton in 2008. His performance earned him Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman of the Year co-honors and he also made the 1998 Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament all-tournament team, as well as the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team. In his sophomore campaign, he went 13-7 with a 4.96 ERA in 21 games (20 starts), while hitting .346/.438/.429 with 71 hits and 31 walks in 61 games. He was a NCBWA Second-Team All-American. He was 4-1 with a 4.59 mark his junior year, batting .280/.390/.357 at the plate and in his senior year, he was 7-1 with a 2.77 ERA in 13 starts, hitting .255/.269/.275 as a batter in a campaign cut short by an elbow injury.He went undrafted and did not play professionally until 2003, when the Anaheim Angels signed him and assigned him to the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels, with whom he went 7-3 with a 3.73 ERA in 42 relief appearances. That was his only professional experience. He missed 2002 to recovery from Tommy John surgery.".
