In 2000, he endorsed Republican Bob Franks for U.S. Senate against the Democratic candidate, Jon Corzine. He served many years as the South Orange Democratic Party Chairman.McEnroe was the brother of Ellen (Bunny) McEnroe Golding, a former South Orange Councilwoman. His niece, lobbyist Karen Golding, had been convicted of stalking Assembly Majority Leader and New Jersey Democratic State Chairman Joseph Cryan, with whom she alleged a three-year affair.".
