- Foot_health_practitioner abstract "A foot health practitioner (FHP) is a private sector provider of routine foot care. The title is most used in Ireland and the United Kingdom. FHPs undertake training to recognise, assess and treat commonly occurring foot conditions. There are a variety of courses that can be undertaken to train as a FHP, which are all below degree level. Two week training is usually undertaken through distance learning, with 10 practical training sessions delivered in clinics. Many FHPs go on to complete further courses in areas such as biomechanics and cryotherapy. Many foot health practitioners continue their development and remain updated by pursuit of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to fill in knowledge gaps, despite there being no statutory requirement to do so. The training is not as extensive as chiropodist or podiatrists, who need to have completed a degree which includes clinical placements that are equivalent to around 1000 clinical hours.Foot health practitioners are not subject to regulation in the United Kingdom, whereas chiropodist and podiatrists have protected titles and are required to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). From August 2013 Foot Health Practitioners have been able to join an voluntary register that is vetted and accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA).".
