- Earl_Lloyd-George_of_Dwyfor abstract "Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor is an hereditary title in the peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1945 for the celebrated Liberal parliamentarian David Lloyd George who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1908 to 1915 and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1916 to 1922.Lloyd George was created an Earl in 1945 with the subsidiary title of Viscount Gwynedd, of Dwyfor in the County of Caernarvon, both hereditary titles in the peerage of the United Kingdom. Under peerage title rules, Lloyd George's family name, although not hyphenated, was required to be for his title, as in other cases such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Baron Lloyd-Webber. The family titles are currently held by his great-grandson, the 4th Earl, who succeeded his father, the 3rd Earl, in 2010.Two of David Lloyd George's children also earned distinction in public life. His second son the Hon. Gwilym Lloyd George was Home Secretary from 1954 to 1957 before being created Viscount Tenby in 1957; and, his daughter Lady Megan Lloyd George CH MP represented Anglesey and Carmarthen in the House of Commons. Both Gwynedd and Dwyfor are ancient Welsh placenames, which Lord Lloyd-George included as territorial designations in his noble titles. They were subsequently revived, in 1974, for a local government county and district, respectively.".
