- Dicks_Picks_Volume_28 abstract "Dick's Picks Volume 28 is an album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. Released on four CDs on April 20, 2003, it is the 28th installment of the Dick's Picks archival series. It was recorded principally on February 26, 1973 at the Pershing Municipal Auditorium in Lincoln, Nebraska and on February 28, 1973 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah.Dick's Picks Volume 28 includes two early versions of \"They Love Each Other\" with an additional verse and bridge. An early performance of \"Row Jimmy\" is also present. Both songs debuted during the February '73 tour.Several tracks were played on both 2/26 and 2/28, but only the 2/28 versions are included: \"Mexicali Blues\", \"Box of Rain\", \"China Cat Sunflower\", \"I Know You Rider\", and \"Row Jimmy\". Several songs were played on 2/26 but do not appear on the album at all: \"Deal\", \"Beat It On Down The Line\", and \"El Paso\". \"Promised Land\" was played at both shows but only the 2/26 version is included. There may be one or more additional songs from 2/28 that do not appear, because the known track listing for 2/28 is likely incomplete, according to the band's archives. The album liner notes list Ron \"Pigpen\" McKernan as one of the band members \"in spirit\". A few days after these concerts, on March 8, 1973, Pigpen died at the age of 27.This release is known to have a patched cut in the original soundboard tapes. If certain soundboards are missing parts of a song those creating the release will attempt to patch the cut if possible. Sometimes this is from an audience source or from an entirely different show. Unfortunately there is no database for these fixed soundboards and hence is up to the listeners to stumble upon such a discovery. Track 3 on Disc 2, \"Eyes of the World\", contains a portion of the \"Eyes of the World\" played on 1973-02-22 which occurs at 2:40 to 4:34 on the track. Track 5 on Disc 4, \"Morning Dew\", contains a patch from the version of Morning Dew played on 1973-06-29, which occurs from 00:45 to 1:17 on the track. It is possible that there are other fixed cuts on this release.".
