- Chris_Lattanzio abstract "Chris Lattanzio (born 1963) is an American artist based in Dallas, Texas. His work Spirit of the Downhill Skier was included in the official United States Olympic Committee collection of 2006 Winter Olympics commemorative art pieces. His 3-d line works, a form of low relief that is the exact opposite of an etching-where everything else is taken away and only the lines are carved out and raise from the surface, have also been exhibited at the Supperclub in San Francisco and were included in a fund-raising event by Home Away from Homeless in 2006.2007, Nobel Portraits for a Noble Building features 51 faces of all the Nobel Prize–winning scientists from the Bay Area (Stanford, UC Berkeley and UCSF), along with the largest wood portrait of Buddha in the United States, measuring 25 feet tall by 20 feet wide. His work is included in Wareham Development's Emeryville Station East (5885 Hollis Ave. in downtown Emeryville)-one of the leading centers for alternative fuel research in the United States.http://articles.sfgate.com/2008-12-03/bay-area/17133447_1_biofuels-joint-bioenergy-institute-lawrence-berkeleyhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/berkeleylab/3522944679/Beginning in 2008, Lattanzio began painting with light. Lattanzio’s lights bleed into the ambient space surrounding the art itself; the LED lights and the space the lights illuminates, create a rare but soothing type of pictorial wall space. His personalized 3-D line art combined with his facility with light and the interplay of colors and shadows, elicited out loud responses like “Whoa!, from guests at his recent opening. Not all accomplished artists have an MFA in Art; Lattanzio has an BBA in Economics from Baylor University. Excerpts from his blog: “I graduated, went to New York…visited museums…a lot…decided that the corporate world was not for me…Back to Texas…I taught myself art…multiple visits to artists’ studios, books, magazines and criticisms from every opinion…I met Donald Judd through his daughter Rainer during this time working on music, video for the pop group Tripping Daisy; Judd showed me the effects of materials, color and light on space at his museum in Marfa…That is why my first LED line sculpture, done in 2008, features a youth (my then 11-year-old son Nico) metaphorically attacking Marfa and its fire station…LEDs are the greenest light around – lights average 100,000 hours – sip electricity while giving a bright, warm glow. My work begins with the imagery of people, places and things I find in my digital camera. I reduce the image to simple lines…in ink and then applying the sketched image to flat surfaces/planes of MDF wood that are carved on my Excalibur scroll saw and built up from a flat base. The pieces can also be created in metal or concrete castings from wood originals.” http://regularmain.com/2010/04/23/chris-lattanzio/His metal sculpture, Yellow rose of Texas, won second place in the inaugural Henderson Art Project in 2010http://www.dallasnews.com/entertainment/arts/headlines/20100328-Art-Notes-Henderson-Art-Project-6844.ece http://www3.dmagazine.com/events/details/Artist-Talk-with-Chris-Lattanzio/maphttp://frontrow.dmagazine.com/2010/05/the-henderson-art-project-attempts-to-beatify-and-market-the-bustling-district/".
