- Badayev_warehouses abstract "Badayev warehouses are the stores named after Aleksei E. Badaev, a complex of wooden warehouses, built in St. Petersburg in 1914, by a merchant of the 1st Guild Igor Rasteryaev on an area of 27 hectares. After October 1917 warehouses were used to store food reserves. At the beginning of the siege of Leningrad warehouses were bombed by German troops and burned, so that the city has lost some of their food reserves. This event is mentioned in the song written by, Vladimir Vysotsky, \"I grew up in the period of siege of Leningrad ...\". As a result of raids by the German Luftwaffe on the 8th and 10 September 1941, about 40 sheds at Badayev warehouses had burned where 3 thousand tons of flour and 2,5 thousand tons of sugar were stored (the reserves of the city for 1–3 days, according to the norms in force at that time). Up to 1 tonnes of burnt flour and 900 tons of burnt sugar were partially processed by food enterprises of the city.In the minds of Leningrad habitants fire at Badayev warehouses became a symbol of famine of 1941-42. However the version that this particular fire was the main cause of starvation in autumn and winter 1941-42, is not true, as food stocks kept there was sufficient for 3 days (based on rations for population in Leningrad). After 1945 and until 1970 Badayev warehouses were rebuilt (now it acts as LLC “Wholesale stores\" that provides sheds for rent). In May 20, 2010 warehouses have burned again, possibly due to a campfire. In December 2010 RESO-Garantia insurance company has paid 30.8 mln. Rbls for the insured by one of the companies (and stored at Badayev warehouses) goods that burned during the fire in May 20, 2010.Reconstruction of the warehouses is planned at the second decade of the 21st century. Integrated development of the territory involves the construction of 950 thousand m2 of retail and office space. There will be built a new convention center and hotel complex (3.000 rooms). It will consist of three buildings. An area of 28 hectares will be renovated by TriGranit realty company. One of the hotels will be built as a dominant feature - its height is planned to be up to 140 meters.".
