- Awana_Skyway abstract "The 2.4-kilometre Awana Skyway (formerly known as Sri Layang cable car) is categorised as an aerial tramway connecting Sri Layang Hotel at base level and Genting Grand Hotel at the hilltop of Genting Highlands, Pahang in Malaysia. It was built in 1975 by Yamato Cableway Company - a Japanese Company and it was serviced by Garaventa from Switzerland. The cable car was officiated by the Sultan Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah in 1977. It was then Malaysia’s very first aerial lift cable transport system before Genting Skyway was officially opened on 21 February 1997.Generally, the system uses counterbalancing of the two cable cars, with one going up and one going down, minimising the energy needed to lift the cable car going up. As a result, the service is only available at lower frequency at every half an hour for the 12-minute journey. The cable car uses a jig-back system: A large electric motor is located at the bottom of the tramway so that it effectively pulls one cabin down, using that cabin's weight to help pull the other cabin up. A similar system of cables is used in a funicular railway. The two passenger cabins are situated at opposite ends of the loops of cable. Thus, while one is coming up, the other is going down the mountain, and they pass each other midway on the cable span. The cable car spans on five towers, connecting three stations at Sri Layang Hotel at base level, Chin Swee at mid level and Genting Grand Hotel at upper level. It has ceased its operations since 1 April 2014 to make way for the construction of an all-new cable car system due to reopen in 2016. There is no news in media on the construction since its closing of service to public. However, it may have a possibility of using gondola lift type, which is the same as Genting Skyway.".
