They went into the gramophone record business in summer of 1920. Their recording studio was located in Manhattan, New York City. Arto issued a Black Label series of popular music, numbered 9xxx, including such artists as the California Ramblers, Lucille Hegamin, the Original Memphis Five and Vernon Dalhart. The label also issued a Red Label series of classical and ethnic music, numbered 3xxxx, that included the Peerless Quartet and Fred Van Eps.Arto Records pressed masters for other record companies, including Nordskog Records and Arto's sister company Bell Records.
