- Albert_Gallup abstract "Albert Gallup (January 30, 1796 – November 5, 1851) was a U.S. Representative from New York.Born in East Berne, New York, Gallup received a limited schooling. In 1818 he married Eunice Smith, daughter of Capt. Amos Denison Smith and Priscilla Mitchell. (His ancestors and descendants are posted on the Berne Historical Project web site.) He studied law, was admitted to the bar, and practiced in Albany. He served as sheriff of Albany County from 1831 to 1834.Gallup was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1837 – March 4, 1839). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1838 to the Twenty-sixth Congress. He was appointed by President Polk collector of customs at Albany. He died in Providence, Rhode Island, November 5, 1851. He was interred in Swan Point Cemetery.".
