He served until the fall of 1888, when he returned to Holton, Kansas, and resumed the practice of law. His wife, Mary, died November 13, 1888.Broderick was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-second and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1891-March 3, 1899).He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1898. He again engaged in the practice of law in Holton, Kansas. He retired from the practice of law and devoted his time to farming and livestock interests. He died in Holton, April 1, 1920.
