For centuries, it has been the one of the centres of UGCC in Western Ukraine. The monastery is situated near the Fedir hill in Buchach, 18 km southwest of Monastyryska and about 70 km south of Ternopil. Founders: Stefan Aleksander Potocki with his wife Joanna Potocka (Sieniawska), their son Mikołaj Bazyli Potocki was Benefactor of monastery. On December 7, 1712 in Lublin Stefan Aleksander Potocki and his wife Joanna issued fundush in the amount of 30,000 zlotys clearly establishing the Basilian monastery in Buchach in order to improve education of the Greek Catholic clergy. In 1714 Catholic Archeparchy of Lviv (represented by Jan Skarbek - Archbishop of Lviv RCC) gave the church of St. Cross (kostelyk) for Buchach Basilian religious celebrations in temporary property on April 29, 1747 - at constant (resolution Archbishop of Lviv of Latin Nicolas Gerard Vyzhycki).On September 18, 1771 with the permission of Metropolitan Leo Sheptytsky spent abbot of the monastery, Father Innocent Mshanetskyy held a consecration of the newly built monastery church called the Church of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross.The monastery bell tower was built in 1849-1854.The monastery monks visited Metropolitan Venerable Andrey Sheptytsky."@en }
