It was discovered on 21 November 1936 by Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku Observatory, Finland.It is a X-spectral type asteroid in the SMASS taxonomy, while the Collaborative Asteroid Lightcurve Link considers the body to be a stony S-type asteroid. It orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.0–3.5 AU once every 4 years and 7 months (1,680 days). Its orbit shows a high eccentricity of 0.28 and is tilted by 6 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic. It has a rather long rotation period of 31.151 hours and an albedo of 0.18 to 0.23, according to the surveys carried out by IRAS, Akari, and WISE/NEOWISE.The minor planet was named after Finnish topologist Ernst Leonard Lindelöf (1870–1946), who was a professor of mathematics at Helsinki University and after whom Lindelöf spaces are named."@en }
