- WKNY-TV abstract "WKNY-TV was an independent TV station that served the Hudson Valley in the mid-1950s.Owned by Joseph K. Close and the Kingston Broadcasting Company (the same owners of WKNY radio), WKNY-TV, Channel 66, came on the air on May 24, 1954, licensed to Kingston, New York but broadcasting from studios in Poughkeepsie. Although technically an independent, WKNY carried programs from all four major networks of the time: ABC, NBC, CBS and DuMont. As of 1955, they were broadcasting one hour a day in the morning (11am to noon) and 5 1/2 hours in the evening (5:30 to 11pm), seven days a week. (Telecasting Yearbook, 1955-56.)
