It is the principal site for older adult rehabilitation for residents of Beaumont Hospital, Dublin's catchment area. The house later hosted the gala party for the launch of the Dublin to Drogheda Railway.St. Joseph's operated as an elective private hospital until 2001 when it came into public ownership. St. Joseph's Hospital has been administered by the Board of Beaumont Hospital since 2004. Its clinical staff is provided by Beaumont Hospital.Services provided by the hospital include elective surgery (day and 5 day), residential nursing care, rehabilitation, x-ray, ultrasound and CT diagnostics. A sleep laboratory run by the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Beaumont Hospital and a phlebotomy service run by the Department of Hepatology at Beaumont Hospital are also located at St. Joseph's Hospital.Medical students undergoing clinical experience in geriatric medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) medical school attend St. Joseph's Hospital. An education centre for medical students was opened at the former Gate Lodge of the hospital in 2011 by the RCSI medical school.A 100 bed community nursing unit, called Raheny Community Nursing Unit was built in 2010 and officially opened by the Irish Minister for Health, Dr. James Reilly TD, in November 2012. Construction of a new Geriatric Medicine Day Hospital began in January 2013 and this unit began operating in February 2014.St. Joseph's is situated in a fenced area on the banks of the Santry River, with the main hospital building, a convent building and a gate lodge. It adjoins Springdale National School.A day centre, run by the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland, is also present on the campus of St. Joseph's Hospital and provides social support services to the carers and families of patients with dementia.The friars of St. Francis Capuchin Friary, Station Road, Raheny, are the Catholic chaplains to the hospital. A new convent for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery who live on the site of the hospital was built in 2010 as part of the development of Raheny Community Nursing Unit.".
