The lyrics of the song where composed by distinguished Irish songwriter Phil Coulter, whose six children attended the school. The main school games are rugby and hockey. Depending on the school term, St. Gerard’s may provide tennis, athletics archery, fencing, basketball, soccer, cross-country, badminton, golf and softball. Students are encouraged to enter local and national competitions in Science, Business Studies, Irish, Home Economics and Economics, English and many others. Other activities include debating, public speaking, choir, educational trips, equestrian events, sailing, the annual musical, charity fund-raising and visits from distinguished speakers in various subjects and in careers.".
