In addition, there is a large hydroelectric power station on the Yalu at Supung Dam. The Pyongbuk Line railroad passes through the county, on its narrow way between Chongju and Chongsu (청수). The Yalu is also used for passenger and freight traffic. There are eight colleges in Sakchu. These include Supung Industrial College, Sakchu Industrial College, and Supung Specialized College of Electricity (수풍전기단과대학).Under the control of the Thirty-second Division, some of North Korea's chemical weapons factories are located in the city.".
