The launch was conducted from Site 1/5 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, and occurred at 09:00:00 UTC on 21 October 1962.Kosmos 10 was placed into a low Earth orbit with a perigee of 178 kilometres (111 mi), an apogee of 376 kilometres (234 mi), 64.9 degrees of inclination, and an orbital period of 90 minutes. It conducted a four day mission, before being deorbited and landing by parachute on 21 October.Kosmos 10 was a Zenit-2 satellite, a reconnaissance satellite derived from the Vostok spacecraft used for manned flights. Kosmos 10 carried an area survey reconnaissance payload. In addition to reconnaissance, it was also used for research into radiation in support of the Vostok programme.
