- Dhakar abstract "The Dhakar (also known as Dhakad or Dhaker) are a community of Rajputs. They claim to be descended from the mythological Agnivanshi dynasty and are mainly found in north-west Madhya Pradesh and south-east Rajasthan, as well as some parts of western Uttar Pradesh. There are three major branches of Dhakars, namely: Kirar, Nagar and Malav. The Maheshri Banias, who consider themselves to be Dhakar, believe that the name originated from Dhakargarh, being the place from which they had migrated. The Dhakars are practitioners of a traditional dance form, known as Bhavai dance, and are today considered by anthropologists to be a non-elite group. In the state of Chhattisgarh they have been designated since at least 2007 as an Other Backward Class in the Indian system designed to aid positive discrimination. They have been similarly classified in Madhya Pradesh and in Rajasthan since at least the 1990s.".
