- Bukit_Nanas abstract "Bukit Nanas, formerly Bukit Gombak is a landmark of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It contains the only virgin tropical rain forest left in the city. The city planners are dedicated to preserving this jungle located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Originally home of the Malayan Tiger and elephants, this jungle is still home to monkeys, pythons, squirrels, and monitor lizards. It has a story that makes people remember Bukit NanasBukit Nanas is situated in the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, which is open to the public. There are jungle trails, a visitors centre, and a forestry museum. There used to be a cable car service that has been discontinued since the 1980s. In August 2012 the forest was closed to the public whilst the cable car was rebuilt. According to public notices posted at the entrance this will be "until further notice." The visitor centre and all other public areas are still open. As of October 2013 it is still "temporarily" closed. In 1996, the Kuala Lumpur Tower, which is the fifth tallest telecommunications tower in the world was built on the hill. It has an observation deck, a banquet floor and a revolving restaurant. Two of Malaysia's many British colonial era schools, which exceeded hundred years old, are also situated on this hill. They are St John's Institution and Convent Bukit Nanas. St. John's Institution has been gazetted as a National Heritage Site by the federal government. Another landmark is the St John's Cathedral, which is a Roman Catholic church with architecture similar to St John's Institution and Convent Bukit Nanas.".
