- Bev_Shipley abstract "Beverly T. "Bev" Shipley (born June 22, 1947 in Middlesex Centre, Ontario) is a farmer and Conservative Party politician in Ontario, Canada. He was first elected as Member of Parliament for the Lambton—Kent—Middlesex (LKM) electoral district in 2006, re-elected in 2008 and 2011. He is the current Conservative candidate for LKM.Bev Shipley has had many accomplishments in his years as Member of Parliament for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. In 2010, his first Private Members’ Motion M-460 passed in the House of Commons. It calls on Parliament to streamline the fertilizer regulations and approval processes with the United States and thus remove the disadvantage currently experienced by Canadian farmers. It has influenced sections of Bill C-18: Agricultural Growth Act. Bev Shipley also had the privilege to bring forward, in 2012, a second Private Members’ Motion M-382 on Religious Freedom. It passed by unanimous consent in the House of Commons and backed the creation of the Office of Religious Freedom. Not only has Shipley seen his significant motions passed in Parliament; he has also filled various positions during his terms as a Member of Parliament. In 2011, Bev was chosen by the Prime Minister to chair the South West Ontario Conservative Regional Caucus, a position he filled until the fall of 2013. Bev Shipley has sat as a member on many standing committees, the most recent being Public Accounts and International Trade, until he was himself chosen to chair a committee. In October 2013, he was elected as Chair of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food. As chair, Bev steered the committee through studies of significant legislation, namely Bill C-30: Fair Rail for Grain Farmers Act and Bill C-18: Agricultural Growth Act. They also conducted a study of the most significant trade deal to influence the Canadian agriculture industry in modern times – the Canada-Europe Trade Agreement (CETA).Having lived all his life in Middlesex County, Bev Shipley is much loved by his constituents. His agricultural roots and qualifications stem from his having taken over the family farm. A graduate of the Centralia College of Agricultural Technology, Shipley was elected as a councillor in Lobo Township in 1986 and as the Warden of Middlesex County in 1995. He was the mayor of Middlesex Centre for six years. He ran in the 2004 election for the Conservatives in Lambton—Kent—Middlesex but lost to Rose-Marie Ur of the Liberal Party of Canada by only 164 votes. After Ur did not seek reelection in 2006, Shipley won the seat handily with almost 58% of the vote and has held the seat ever since.Shipley is married to Barb Shipley (née: Stewart) and has three children. His father-in-law is Bill Stewart, former Minister of Agriculture for the Province of Ontario (1961–1975). He is also a member of the Community Bible Church.".
