- Beatriz_Colomina abstract "Beatriz Colomina is an architecture historian. She came to Columbia University from Spain in 1982. She then moved on to Princeton University's School of Architecture in 1988, later to become its director of graduate studies. She is the Founding Director of the Program in Media and Modernity at Princeton University, and has been named a 2003 Old Dominion Faculty Fellow. She has written extensively on questions of architecture and the modern institutions of representation, particularly the printed media, photography, advertising, film and TV. Her books include Privacy and Publicity: Modern Architecture as Mass Media (1994), awarded the 1995 International Book Award by the American Institute of Architects; Sexuality and Space (editor, 1992), awarded the 1993 AIA International Book Award; and Architectureproduction (editor, 1988). She also had an essay published in the book The Sex of Architecture (Abrams, 1996). She is the author of numerous articles and has lectured extensively throughout the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Architectural Institute of Japan, Tokyo; the Center for Contemporary Art and Architecture in Stockholm; and the DIA Art Foundation in New York.Colomina has been on the editorial board of such periodicals as Assemblage, Daidalos, and Grey Room.She has also received many grants and fellowships including the Chicago Institute for Architecture, Fondation Le Corbusier, and the Center for Advanced Studies in the Visual Arts in Washington. Recently, Colomina received a Graham Foundation grant for her research project "X-Ray Architecture: Illness as Metaphor".".
