A Malayalam Film- Manjupoloru Penkutty directed by Kamal. The story focused around a 16-year-old school girl in Kerala who was tormented by and rose against her sexually abusive father. The film dealt with a real issue and made waves for its bold subject through the Southern Industry. It was later dubbed and re-released in more languages across the Southern States, including Kannada and Telegu. Amrita's work in the film brought her accolades and critical fame and she was nominated by the State for the National Awards as Best Actress. Amrita has mentioned in her interviews that as a Performer, being nominated for the National State Awards has been the most gratifying point in her career.She went on to do one of her most defining roles with Rajshri Films, playing the character of Chotti in Sooraj Barjatya's Vivah.The character of Chotti was that of a dark skinned girl, and brought forth the prejudices and misogyny within the country that is extended towards darker skin over fairer skin. Her performance in Vivaah was hugely appreciated by critics and the audience and she was nominated for Best Supporting Role through various Lobbies. She holds a Master's Degree in Commerce and Business Administration from The University of Mumbai.After her Masters she took up the show Ek Rishta Aisa Bhi for Sony Pal.
