- AlpHouse abstract "AlpHouse is a project of the Alpine Space Programme of the European Union in cooperation with the Working Group of Alpine Countries (ArgeAlp). It is led by the Chamber of Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria (Handwerkskammer für München und Oberbayern). The aim of the project AlpHouse is to develop a new notion of quality for the renovation of buildings in the Alps. It shows how traditional building forms and settlement structures can be preserved while simultaneously improving their energy efficiency and ecobalance. This combination of traditional architecture and energy efficiency is of special interest in the alpine space. The various vernacular building forms of the Alps embody a highly valuable pool of knowledge on how to make the best use of the available regional resources. The project seeks to analyse and apply the wisdom of this cultural heritage that evolved over centuries in order to reduce regional energy consumption. Simultaneously it wants to contribute to a preservation and ongoing development of alpine architecture that is sustainable and appropriate to current usage. The project has started in September 2009 and covers the countries Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France. In these countries AlpHouse offers training modules for craftsmen, architects/planners and decision makers in politics/administration to give tools and instruction for high quality renovations of alpine buildings.".
