- Đào_Sĩ_Chu abstract "Đào Sĩ Chu (1911-1974) was a Vietnamese painter who studied in France and was known for following the traditional style of the EBAI school. He was also an organizer of art exhibitions and writer on the history of art.Mr. Đào Sĩ Chu was born in 1911, Hanoi, from an intellectual family in which one of his sisters was the renowned poetess Vân Đài, Đào Thị Nguyệt Minh.After graduating as State Pharmacist in 1939, he had first contacts with well-known artists such as Trần Bình Lộc, Lê Phổ, Tô Ngọc Vân, ... of Ha Noi for painting techniques and because of this he was influenced by the EBAI school.During 1949-1951, after travelling and visiting Arts Museums in France, he devoted of himself to arts and studied painting. His first painting exhibition with painter Lê Bá Đǎng was at Vibaud Galerie, which received appreciative comments from art magazines Les Ponts des Arts, Le Cri de Paris ... for color composition and portrait skills. Within 1951-1954, his other paintings were exhibited consecutively at Grand Palais and Salon des Artistes Independants in Paris where he was a member of the Societe des Artistes Independants till 1958. He also set up a permanent exhibition room named Liên Hương in Ha Noi for his colleagues. Besides, he was a composer who had contracts with Pathe Marconi and Polydor for various national songs for official events as Viêt Nam Thống Nhất (Viet Nam Unified), Phụ Nữ Việt Nam (Viet Nam Women), Trưng Nữ Vương (Queen Trung), ... .Golden Medal at the Saigon Exhibition (1955). Organizer and Delegate General of the First International Art Exhibition in Saigon on October 1962. Professor and Adviser of Arts until 1974.After 1975, his works were severely criticized in the book Mỹ Thuật Việt Nam, chapter XI, page 274 - 277, published by Nhà Xuất Bản Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh, November 1984.From April 2002, an auction sale was organized by Sotheby's Singapore for his paintings of Young girl feeding chickens (Lot 101) and les Rues indiennes (Lot 477).And now, an humble painting of Đào Sĩ Chu could be seen at the Hồ Chí Minh City Fine Arts Museum.".
