For his services during the war, he was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in November 1900.Colvin was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Epping at an unopposed by-election in 1917, after Epping's Conservative MP Amelius Lockwood was ennobled as Baron Lambourne.
