In 1995, he was admitted to the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, where he obtained his Bachelor's in Music with concentrations in Musical Education and Trumpet. In 2007, Perez obtained his Master's in Trumpet at the University of Kansas, where he was also a candidate for a Doctorate in Trumpet under Steve Leisring. He has received various prizes in national and regional competitions, among them the Roberto I Ferdman Prize (2001), Semi-Finalist (Solo) in the National Trumpet Competition (2006), Fifth Place in Trumpet Ensemble in the National Trumpet Competition (2006),and First Place in Brass Quintet in the Musical Education Association of the State of Kansas Competition (2005). As a soloist, he has played Haydn's Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra with the University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra and in 2008 toured in China, where he played Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets and Orchestra. He was invited to play in the world premiere of the trio Dot Dash with Peter Knight in the 2010 International Trumpet Guild in Sydney, Australia. He has played for groups such as the Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico, the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Institute of Culture of Puerto Rico, the State Band of Puerto Rico, the Orchestra of the Casals Festival, Brass of the Casals Festival, Puerto Rican Brass Ensemble, Philharmonic Orchestra of Puerto Rico, Sinfonietta of the City of Bayamon, Lawrence Chamber Orchestra in Kansas, Fountain City Brass Band in Kansas City, The Kansas Brass Quintet, Idyllwild Festival Orchestra in California, Youth Orchestra of the Americas, and Southeast Kansas Symphony. He has also been Professor of Trumpet at Pittsburgh State University and at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in San Germán. Nitai Pons Perez currently holds the post of Professor of Music at the Ernesto Ramos Antonini School of Fine Arts in Yauco."@en }
