Dobson was Captain of Walsall throughout the 2006-2007 season and captained Walsall to their second ever Champion's title lifting the League 2 Champion's Trophy at the of the 2006-2007 season. He was released by the Saddlers on 7 May 2008. Due to a succession of knee injuries Dobson retired from football following the advice of a specialist .One of Dobson's strengths was his versatility.
