He was honoured by Rukunuddin Barbak Shah with the title 'Gunaraj Khan'.Maladhar Basu was born at Kulingram village of modern-day Bardhaman district, Paschimbanga (West Bengal) to Bhagirath Basu and Indumati Devi.
