She has contributed to Australian biosecurity efforts.In October 2015 her research in building virtual habitats was highlighted on the ABC.Mengersen is a member of the Statistical Society of Australia (SSAI), American Statistical Association (ASA), Royal Statistical Society (RSS), the Society for Modelling and Simulation (MODSIM), International Biometrics Society (IBS), Institute for Mathematical Statistics, (IMS) International Statistical Institute, (ISI) and the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA). She has been a member of the Boards of SSAI and IBS, was the National President of SSAI in 2013, and is the International President of ISBA in 2016."@en }
