He read law to be admitted to the bar, and established a private practice in Georgetown, Kentucky. He became a Kentucky circuit judge, and was a U.S. Territorial Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Arkansas Territory from 1821 to 1836. On June 27, 1836, Johnson was nominated by President Andrew Jackson to a new seat on the United States District Court for the District of Arkansas created by 5 Stat. 50. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 29, 1836, and received his commission the same day. Johnson served in that capacity until his death, in 1849, in Lexington, Kentucky."@en }
