It was the site of a dairy farm owned by Caleb Haley. The land was sold to A. C. White in 1953 who developed Mumford Cove and sold 198 acres to the State of Connecticut for $300,000 in July 1970. In 1975, a bike trail from Mystic to Noank was established and part of it goes through the Haley Farm State Park. Another 57 acres were purchased for a total of $913,300 and added to the park in 2002. The Haley Farm State Park includes 267 acres that is directly connected to Bluff Point Coastal Reserve through a pedestrian bridge over railroad tracks.
