He was the youngest of four sons born into a wealthy family and was privately educated. He was a brother of painter and physician Peder Sather Bruguière (1874-1967) and was the grandson of banker Peder Sather. In 1905, Bruguière became acquainted with photographer and modern art promoter Alfred Stieglitz. In 1919 he moved to New York City and established a studio where he began photographing for Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar. He also became the official photographer of the New York Theatre Guild. In 1918 he published a book of photographs titled San Francisco. In 1928 he moved to London later returning to New York City, where he focused primarily on painting and sculpture. His partner from 1920, and for the rest of his life, was the British stage actress Rosalinde Fuller."@en }
