He was again elected to the Forty-third Congress (March 4, 1873 – March 3, 1875), but was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1874 to the Forty-fourth Congress.He then became a pension agent in Boston 1876-1886, resumed the practice of law and also engaged in literary pursuits.
