- William_Bancroft_(rugby_player_and_cricketer) abstract "William John Bancroft (1871 - 1959) was a Welsh rugby player and cricketer. He was born in Carmarthen, the eldest of 11 children, but grew up in Swansea where he played for the local youth team, the Excelsiors, before playing his first game for Swansea on 5 October 1889. In February 1890 he was chosen to play for Wales against Scotland, replacing Tom England of Newport. When Wales gained the triple crown for the first time in 1893, it was his penalty drop-kick which won the match against England, and he led Wales to its second crown in 1900. He was also a professional cricketer, employed in 1895 by Glamorgan Cricket Club (founded in 1888) for £2 per week. He died in March 1959, in Swansea.".
