The lake is mostly in the municipality of South Frontenac, Frontenac County, except for the southern tip which is in and on the northern border of the separated city of Kingston, and is about 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of the town centre of Kingston. Loughborough Lake is in the Great Lakes Basin, is 24 kilometres (15 mi) long and 15 square kilometres (5.8 sq mi) in area, with many small islands, and has over 160 kilometres (99 mi) of shoreline.The east basin of Loughborough Lake contains several islands, and is shallow compared to the west basin. The community of Battersea, Ontario is located on the south shore of the lake's east basin. Davidson's Beach is located on the lower end of the Lake; on its east shoreline.There are two outflows from the lake. Loughborough Lake Creek leaves at the north and flows to Opinicon Lake on the Cataraqui River, part of the Rideau Canal. Milburn Creek leaves at Battersea at the middle east and flows to Milburn Bay on Dog Lake and then to Cranberry Lake, also on the Cataraqui River/Rideau Canal, but further downstream from Opinicon Lake. Both ouflows are managed by control structures owned by Fortis. The Cataraqui River and the Rideau Canal head south to Lake Ontario.In shallow areas of the lake (10 metres (33 ft) and shallower), large mouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike and various other pan fish are found; deeper areas contain largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, lake trout, rainbow trout and pan fish.
