He was afterwards connected the Construction Department of the Royal Naval Dockyards at Plymouth till 1815. Steers married Ann Rich in 1803, and they had thirteen children together, including a daughter Ann Steer who remained in England, and a son Henry Torring Steer. At some point, Henry began to spell the surname \"Steers\" and that usage has continued in the family to this day.
