Since childhood he learned to carve by his father, who was a carpenter and mason. In 1928 he traveled to Paris where he studied at the Académie Julian and established a workshop on the outskirts of that city. He returned to Venezuela in 1931, and opened a studio in the working-class neighborhood of Catia, a place where artists and intellectuals gathered frequently. In 1932, he was commissioned to design and sculpt the sculptures of the fountain of Parque Carabobo (Carabobo Plaza), work that was in charge of the architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva. That would be the beginning of the collaboration between Narvaez and Villanueva: The architect would ask Narvaez to design reliefs on the artificial stone for the facade of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Science (1935-1938), the sources, also in artificial stone, the Plaza O’Leary (O’Leary Square), the redevelopment of the Housing Complex of El Silencio (Las toninas, 1943) and several works for the University City."@en }
