Puckett played his last match for the state in 1953, at the age of 42, finishing his career with 158 wickets from 37 matches. Having returned to South Australia later in life, Puckett died in Adelaide in 2002, and was posthumously named an inaugural inductee in the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame in 2005.
