McGee played professional football as a tight end in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. The bulk of his NFL career was spent with the Cincinnati Bengals from 1993 to 2001. He appeared in 136 games for the Bengals (134 as a starter) and caught 299 passes for 3,795 yards and 20 touchdowns. After nine years with the Bengals, he ranked seventh on the team's all-time career receptions list. McGee also played for the Dallas Cowboys from 2002 to 2003 and the New York Giants for three games at the end of the 2003 NFL season. McGee played college football for the University of Michigan from 1990 to 1992.
