He had one great season in 1954 when he made the American League All-Star Team. That year, he went 16–9 with 3.09 ERA in over 200 innings pitched. His 14 complete games that year was 9th in the league. He would never again have a season like that, although on August 20, 1957, he no-hit the Washington Senators in the second game of a doubleheader at Comiskey Park.
