Together, with her sister ship PS America, she tendered the various White Star Liners which came through the port of Queenstown, Ireland (now Cobh). Like her sister ship, Ireland is best known for her assistance of the RMS Titanic, the ill-fated ocean liner who made her final port of call at Queenstown on her maiden voyage. Ireland brought Irish immigrants to the Titanic, followed by America, who brought 123 passengers. The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, with three-fourths of her maiden voyage completed.On April 19, following the Titanic disaster, Ireland and America's White Star Line flags were raised at half-mast.Ireland's exact fate is unknown. Because fellow Titanic tender SS Nomadic is the last White Star Line ship afloat, Ireland was presumably broken up or sunk. It is more likely she was broken up, as tenders are rarely used in conditions bad enough to sink them."@en }
