The Six Nations Championship (formerly known as the Home Nations Championship and the Five Nations Championship) is an annual competition which has been held since 1883. There have been 47 hat-tricks scored during that time, the most recent of which occurred in 2011.The first hat-trick scored in the championship was in its very first match in December 1882 (part of the 1883 competition). The scorer of the hat-trick was England's Charles Wade in a 2–0 win over Wales. At that time a try by itself wasn't worth any points but allowed the team to try a kick at goal. The second hat-trick in the championship's history was scored by George Lindsay for Scotland against Wales in 1887. Lindsay scored five tries on this occasion, which remains a record high for this competition. Another Scot, Ian Smith, holds the record for most hat-tricks with three, two of which were scored in consecutive matches during Scotland's Grand Slam winning season of 1925."@en }
