She made important contributions to the study of Byzantine art in Greece.Doula Mouriki was born in 1934 at Ampelokepi (near Aigio). She earned degrees in history and archaeology in 1956 from the University of Athens. After studies at the Sorbonne, she returned to the University of Athens to earn a degree in French literature in 1958. She was hired by the National Archaeological Museum of Athens and was a research assistant in the Byzantine and Christian Museum from 1961 to 1965. She attended Princeton University, studying with Kurt Weitzmann. She earned her MFA in 1968 and her PhD in 1970. She was the first woman to earn a PhD from the University's Department of Art and Archaeology.She studied thirteenth-century Cypriot icons and Palaeologan monument painting in Greece. She wrote many papers, including two papers on Georgian fresco cycles.She died on 25 November 1991 in Athens, Greece."@en }
