It originally started as a BeOS conference, but after the bankruptcy of its developer, Be Inc., it gradually shifted its focus to Haiku, which is inspired by and compatible with the BeOS. The word "begeistert" is German for "excited", and the use of capitalization alludes to Be, Inc. To reflect the focus shift to Haiku, in 2007, the conference's logo was updated with feathers similar to those in the Haiku logo.BeGeistert usually takes place over a weekend in the autumn of each year in Düsseldorf, Germany. The programme typically consists of demonstrations by European software vendors such as YellowBites, coding demonstrations, and workshops and presentations on advancements made in developing Haiku. It is organized and partially funded by the Haiku Support Association e.V., formerly BeFAN e.V.The conference plays an important part in the BeOS/Haiku community, with developers and representatives from important contributors to these operating systems attending, for example of Be Europe in the late 1990s, of both the Haiku project and yellowTAB (who developed ZETA based on the source code of the BeOS) in the early 2000s, and nowadays of Haiku, Inc. From 2004 to 2006, Haiku, Inc. also organized an official annual Haiku conference under the name "WalterCon" at various locations within the United States. It was discontinued due to a "lack of community interest" for the 2007 conference."@en }
