It is the third building to be opened under the plan of $154 million structure designed by Durbach Block Jaggers (DBJ) in association with BVN Architecture constructed by Richard Crookes Constructions. The building is located in the City Campus – 67 Thomas St, Ultimo (on the corner of Thomas St and Jones St). The project was completed in October 2014 and opened for teaching at the beginning of Semester 1, 2015 (23 February 2015). The building has eight levels that provide spaces for over 1200 staff and students. Three of these floors are distinguished for its state of art teaching, learning and research facilities, which have been located underground.Observing the Alumni Green at UTS, it is perceived as a building that has direct and comfortable access to its surrounding buildings. This provides an easy circulation system between buildings 1, 2 and 10, as well as the Faculty of Engineering and Information technology.Besides its accessibility, the building has become a landmark. Its organic form is inspired from spontaneous shapes of a tree grove. The undulatory form of the building delivers a playful contrast which has been created by 700 colourful, box-style openings constructed over glossy, off-white renders of the exterior façade. Considerably, the external cladding has been crafted from more than 75% recycled glass."@en }
